Ah, it seems to be an almost annual event now… I buy a nice phone, play with it for a bit and then it breaks. Of course it’s normally my fault that it broke. And of course, generally speaking, it’s not covered by my warranty. (Thanks a lot Apple)

Crap. What now?

Well being the good (cheap) citizen of the web that I am, I turn to my dear friend eBay. We’ve been friends for a long time eBay and I, and go back a long time… I remember the first gameboy game that I ever bought from there… sigh.

OK, so maybe I’m getting a little too reminiscent, sorry, back to the point.

So, I trundle off to eBay and type something along the lines of “that brilliant new phone that every one’s talking about”. (Alright, that’s clearly a lie, I actually searched for a “G1″ – which for those not in the know was the first phone released which ran on the Android operating system), and as expected, most of the results are from Hong Kong – and for those wondering why that’s significant, Hong Kong happens to be the world centre for fake electronics – which brings me onto my point nicely.

Having searched for the G1, instead of the HTC G1 that I was looking for, I instead found the “CECT G1″ on eBay, which is, yes, a fake phone.

Introducing the Cext G1 – and let’s be honest, the language in the listing certainly sold this device to me:

The phone doesn’t has QWERT keyboard. It can’t work with WIFI and GPS. It is produced by CECT which is one of the most reliable vendor in CN. Its design is so fashionable, compact and smart. It is very ecological to fit for the distance between human ear and month. Light weight and handy shape can make you keep talking without tired. It is a phone you can not deny.

Needless to say, the hunt for a phone, that isn’t a poor fake with poor English descriptions, is ongoing.

If only the iPhone wasn’t so fragile…

Oh, and yes, I did just make you read all of this to make the simple point which is that I can’t stand fake electronics, or dodgy English! Sorry
