The importance of reading contracts…

2 Dec 2009 by Chris Allen, View Comments

I learnt a harsh lesson recently, and that was the lesson of reading contracts carefully, and why it is important to take everything into account before signing anything!

A while back I wrote some harsh blog posts that landed me in hot water, and it turns out that I could have avoided the reprecussions that resulted if I had simply have read a contract properly, which fully detailed the do’s and dont’s which are expected of me as a Health Professional and I broke this agreement.

This post isn’t meant to be a clever comment about whether I shouldn’t have been caught out or not, but it is meant to be a little warning.

If you’ve signed a contract, at work, or to join a university, you’ve likely agreed to a bunch of stuff that you aren’t aware of, and if you aren’t aware of it, you are in danger of doing something wrong without realising, and ignorance, is not an excuse.

This is so true in the case of my blog posts. I critisized my university, without realising that I had signed documents essentially directly forbidding my actions. I didn’t realise that I had breached this rule, and I was caught out. Big time.

For the love of God people, before posting anthing online, check!
